No question, they can be a very powerful instrument. I feel it particularly when the band is marching and people are standing in the path. I walk in the front row of our band and it feel like you are part of a brick wall about to roll over anything in the path.

I'm not an expert on seasoning, we have used synthetic bags in our band for many years but I was told that seasoning does not work in the synthetic bags. Also it wouldn't be absorbed by the lining so the material would gum up the insides perhaps.

I have carried my pipes onboard many times. So far there hasn't been any problem about the case (mine is soft sided and small) but I am prepared to dismantle them down to the smallest parts and put them in a plastic shopping bag if necessary to make them fit into the size requirements to get onboard...
