Hey, these are my pipes. I just bought them in April 2005. They're class!
They're nickel with a zoomorphic design and immitation ivory with inset nickel! They look great.
And I don't use the chanter thats in the picture, because i use my band one. But its the chanter that goes with the pipes, so i thought i'd take take the foto with that chanter.

Bruce

P.S I've added a foto of me playing them from my band trip to germany in October 2005

Is the nickle on these pipes difficult to keep clean?

Hi,

No the nickel isn't hard to keep clean really! You just have to wipe them down once in a while! For example I clean them 1 every 2 weeks, and as you can see from the pictures, the nickel is clean.

Thanks

I have never seen McCallums. They are interesting but cool. I like the nickel also...mine are just stainless steel but I like the drones themselves on Gibson's better.

Sure they look good, but what do they sound like?

The $64,000 question.

I have the exact same set of pipes!

They sound great, much better than any pipes even close to their price range.

Nice pipes, what's the finish on the drones (oil, wax??)

I don't have a set myself but had a shotty at a band practice when a McCallum dealer came round. I've nae complaints on the sound.

Thanks for sharing.

There is no finish on the pipes. Just plain blackwood

Bad metal works on new Maccallum pipes

We just got 4 sets of brand new Mccallum pipes for our band (SPAD in Denmark) and all are very hard to keep clean on the metal parts. After just one to two weeks all the metal parts went doll. Hundreds of emails and phone calls to the provider and Mccallums couldn't help out. The models are one AB4 like this one here, and four AB1's.

So if you love to polish you pipes once a week, go for Mccallums,- if not, find something else. We have some nice Kintail pipes in our band. It seems like the new models form Mccallums are fitted with bad metal parts,- you must have been lucky to get one of the older models here.

By the way, I owe and play four sets of Mccallum AB4's myself, so it is not just to make you buy another brand of pipes.
