Bagpipes and flying..

Post by kpiper1993 » Wed Mar 03, 2010 6:41 pm

Ok so I have been asked to play at an event I will be attending which requires flying to get there. This will be my first time bringing my pipes on a plane and need to know the best way to ensure their safety. would I have to check them or should I try for carry-on? should they be disassembled, a different case for carrying them? etc. Any advice from those with experience would be appreciated.
Cheers.

I have carried my pipes onboard many times. So far there hasn't been any problem about the case (mine is soft sided and small) but I am prepared to dismantle them down to the smallest parts and put them in a plastic shopping bag if necessary to make them fit into the size requirements to get onboard. I would be afraid to put them through as luggage.
