Slow Time

Today is Holocaust Day for us, so much as I'd love to ship off a jig, I am, instead, going to send up a melodic offering in the form of this slow air. For those who don't know, on this day the air-raid sirens go off in Israel, (as they just did a few minutes ago) from the 2,500 metre peak of Mt. Heirmon, to Eilat on the Gulf of Aqaba, from the beachfront of Tel Aviv, to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and every living man, woman and child rises to his or feet, and lowers the head in a moment of silence and prayer. All cars and trucks pull over to the side of the road, trains halt, the navy ships idle their engines, and jet fighters do not take off. The many Arabs who serve in our armed forces also rise with us.

Thus this melody, JACOB'S TROUBLES. "Jacob" (Ya'akov) is anothe name for Israel. When words fail, lift the pipes to the shoulders, and sound a mournful tune.
