HOW TO - Put a tune you have written on this website

If you have composed a tune, then this is the website to put it on. Don't worry if you are not sure if your tune is 'good' enough - we don't try and impose judgement. All we ask is that the tune is legible.

The "Compositions" forum allows registered users to make a post and tune attach files. We are really keen for people to post their own tunes as this means they have control over them - the person who posted the tune can then edit or even delete their tune at any time.

Ok - so here is a step by step guide to uploading your tune to this website. It's really easy to do, and don't worry about making a mistake as you can always go back and change things.

1) Produce and organise your tune files.

You can attach your tune as one or more of the following file formats:

GIF (files with extension .gif) - These are image files suited for use on websites.
JPEG (files with extension .jpg or .jpeg) - These are images files suited for use on websites.
Bagpipe Music Writer (files with extension .bww or .bmw) - These are files produced by "Bagpipe Music Writer" software
PiobMaster (files with extension .pio) - These are files produced by "PiobMaster" software
Electric Pipes (files with extension .abc or .epm) - These are files produced by "Electric Pipes" software.
MIDI (files with extension .mid) - Audio files (can be produced with "Bagpipe Music Writer Gold)

How you go about producing these files depends on whether or not you have any sort of bagpipe music writing software.

If you don't have any bagpipe music writing software

If you don't have/can't afford or don't have the computer skills to use any bagpipe music writing software then you can get you tune on the site. Try making a post in the Bletherin forum asking form help - chances are someone will be willing to transcribe the tune foryou.

If you have bagpipe music writing software

Once you have written the tune using the software, save the tune (ideally with the tune name as the file name) somewhere on your computer that you can find it easily (e.g "My Documents")

2) Review the standard license

Review the license described in the compositions section in this post to see if it is suitable. If not, you need to describe the license you wish to publish your work under in the body of your post in the next step.

3) Make a post in the "Compositions" forum with your tune files attached

Please make a separate new topic for each tune.

Go to the "Compositions" forum and click the "New Topic" button. Enter the tune details in the "Tune Database Entry" section. As the subject of the post the best thing to put is the tune name - though it doesn't really matter as long as you type something.

In the message body put whatever you want - information about the tune is always appreciated.

For each tune file you have, in the "Add an Attachment" area click on the "Browse" button to locate the file on your computer, then click the "Add Attachment" button (be patient - this uploads the file from your computer to the website so it may take a few seconds).

Once you have attached all the files, submit your post and that's it!

4) Tell your friends

Visit your positng and you will see a Facebook like and share button - if you have a Facebook account you could use the share button to tell your friends your tune is available.

If you don't have a Facebook account, you can always just drop your friends a wee email to let them know.

Tips

+ If you are posting and image, please try and keep the size below 100k. A good rule of thumb is to make sure the image is no wider than 800 pixels - this also means that the image should print properly.
