If you have the bells and whistles Windows 7, then apparently you can run multiple operating systems and have vista or xp on as well. then you install it within that OS shell.

If you've the plain jane variety, like most mere mortals, that won't help much, though.

I published a book of music for the traditional music session I play in using www.lulu.com Someone else did all the work transcribing tunes using a music program, then organised it into word. I then get some other people to sort out the formatting, covers etc and little glitches and uploaded it and ...

Thanks - that's useful, even if I already have a copy I bought from www.ceolsean.com - that's a useful source, even if it is quite expensive when you realise t is all out of copyright. Apparently at least some of the purchase price goes towards supporting a bagpipe museum. This copy has all the pict...

They have quite a good reputation, although the only person I knew who had them, well I didn't think they sounded good. Nobody else seemed to mind though.

For the purposes that you suggest they should do just fine.

There were ball point pens when I started, but I had to use a ruler to draw out the lines.

After a couple of years we started to have some VERY grey, shiny xeroxes, though.

I'm not sure what to suggest now - what you are describing is not how I expect pipes to behave, so unless you have been unlucky with your reeds, it must be some peculiarity of the climate. Hopefully David Siegel, who plays in the Middle East too, so I presume a similar climate, may have some more in...

Now please be aware I'm not a reedmaker or any sort of expert, I'm just kicking a few ideas around to see how they work. I'm also assuming that it's really dry and hot where you are, which could mean that your reed experience will be different to mine. Having said that, it it just the high A and G t...

Sorry if I ask something basic, but I've no idea how long you've been playing for or anything. When you say that pushing the reed into the chanter (moving it up or down) makes no difference, do you mean that it makes no difference when compared with the lower hand (low a, for exmple) or that it does...

I keep checking, but there aren't many people around anymore.

I think some of the other threads are more active, though.

Welsh and Breton Tunes

I clicked on the new sponsor link for Welsh and Breton tunes - it looks quite interesting. It took me a moment to realise that they are US based, but then I thought a bit about the American Welsh communities that I've heard about and it made more sense. There are a couple of tunes on the preview of ...

You mean, 'What were they like compared to HIGHLAND bagpipes ?' I take it. They were VERY different not only because they are belows blown, but also because the bellows is under the left arm and the reservoir under the right - the opposite of uillean pipes for example - and so disorientating. In fac...

Czech pipes in Armagh

Well I went to the William Kennedy Piping Festival in Armagh and saw and heard lots of wonderful piping. I thought people might be interested to see some Czech 'duda'. I was able to have a go and, after learning a couple of tunes (on the fiddle) was asked to join in a performance. As well as my pict...

Strakonice Bagpipe Festival 2006

This year we went to the Strakonice Bagpipe Festival in the Czecg Republic and had a really good time. Although some of the photos weren't very good, I thought it better to post them on one page with a high res option. Have a look at them on http://www.londonnasuwt.org.uk/bagpipe/Strakonice%20Intern...
