Bagpipe Music Writer Gold

Post by Dave448 » Sun Feb 21, 2010 8:14 pm

I want to purchase a copy of "Bagpipe Music Writer Gold" that is compatable with Windows 7. Can anyone tell me the name of a good supplier in the UK please?

I don't think there has been a new release of Bagpipe Music Writer Gold since 1999. With the release of the 'free' program (Bagpipe Music Reader) there was no financial incentive to develop the program further. You might want to ask around to see if anyone has fixed the problems with the program and Windows 7.

Thank you all so much for your replies but I have tried downloading "Bagpipe Player" from the Doug Wickstroms site but that doesn't work either. I wish I had kept my old (Windows XP) computer.

You can purchase BMW Gold from Robert MacNeil. When you receive the package, it comes with updates for installing on Vista and Windows 7. I run the Windows 7 OS and just installed BMW Gold with no issues.

I have telephoned Robert MaCneils music works and left a message on his answer machine, I have also emailed him - still no reply.
Think I'll just give up.
Thanks to all of my friends though for the replies

Dave;

Sometimes, Robert doesn't respond all that quick to inquiries but I can assure you, he does get around to it. You have to keep in mind that he's probably got many many other commitments in his life as well.

You also don't have to go directly though him. Check with the following in your neck of the woods, they carry the software as well and might be a little cheaper for you since it wont be shipped overseas.

I have tried The Piping Centre and they don'y have it in stock. I have tried "Kilts and More", Germany - they have got it in stock but don't know whether it will work with Windows 7 as they have had a lot of complaints from customers.

If you are looking for an alternate bagpipes software, download "BagPipe" : it is available for Windows, Linux and MacOSX.

It is free and can read ABC and BWW files.
By an other hand, it comes with about 500 ABC tunes.

One can also compose new tunes, play a duo with the software (with or without drums). A kind of parrot can automatically record you when playing and playback when you make a pause.

It comes with a visual metronome and a drone tuner.

Take a look at http://r.fifi.free.fr/BagPipe/english.htm

Dave.
If you run Bagpipe Player in windows 7 by right clicking the icon and selecting run as administrator it seems to work ok. If it continues to give an error message get in touch with me and I'll try to help you out.
